don't get the server subpoenaed!!!

This is a service for friends. While I may take referrals if someone has a super cool friend who wants to mess around on a shared linux box, I expect mostly this'll be people I can have a friendly conversation with and to whom I can say "hey, this is causing problems, can you change what you're doing here" which is always going to be my first step.

That being said, if you're doing anything that involves circumventing user privileges, hosting illegal content (please do not!!!!), or just using up server resources somehow (?) and don't stop doing that when I ask you to, I reserve the right to kick you and delete your files. You will have had several warnings, but I cannot guarantee integrity of your files in the event of a ban unless you're backing them up.

Service is intended to have relatively stable uptime. Please report any outages to management (Carly!) and I'll try and get them squared away as fast as possible, which may not be super fast if I'm at work or doing a family thing. This is primarily for fun and should not be used for commercial or high-uptime-needs purposes.
Privacy PolicyThe server will theoretically retain files that you upload to it, unless you choose to abandon or delete your account, or unless you are banned. If you put something in a public folder other people will potentially have access to this.

Any usage data will not be handed over on inquiry unless accompanied by a valid warrant. The warrant canary will be updated regularly.

If you have high security needs, you probably shouldn't store that stuff on this computer. Maybe use Proton Drive or something.

WARRANT CANARY
At time of writing (2/15/26), softerror.net nor its owner has not been compelled to turn or freely turned over any details about user activity or files.
